Howard Overman
Company Director
Howard is co-creator, executive producer and lead writer of the company’s first commission, the 13-part series, Atlantis for BBC1 and BBC America.
He began his TV writing career on hit shows such as Hustle and New Tricks for the BBC before joining Merlin in 2008. Since then he has created a number of critically acclaimed series including the BAFTA award-winning Misfits (E4) in 2009 and police-procedural comedy Vexed (BBC2) in 2010. In 2012 he executive produced Dirk Gentley (BBC4), based on the novels by Douglas Adams and starring Stephen Mangan.
Howard made a return to E4 in 2016 with his comedy-horror series Crazyhead, a co-production with Channel 4 and Netflix. His comedy series, Future Man (Hulu), executive produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, ran for three seasons between 2017 and 2020.
In 2019, Howard wrote an ambitious, modern 8-part adaptation of the HG Wells classic, War of the Worlds, starring Gabriel Byrne and Elizabeth McGovern for Fox Networks Group and Canal+. The series aired in France to record ratings for Canal+ and drew worldwide acclaim. A second series penned by Howard is set to film in 2020.
